Natural Habitats has now stepped into the pure Design Consultancy arena. Our design team consists of four Landscape Architects, one with her BArch and Masters in LA, which is a combination that few architects in NZ have. Whilst exceptional design is expected, an added benefit is cost surety by offering real time commercially based cost auditing as the design is produced via our full time in house estimating team.
The parks are the first two neighbourhood parks completed. They form an integral part of the larger green network within the Stonefields development which also includes a major wetland development and the streetscaping. Natural Habitats design team has carried the initial concept design through the developed, detailed and contract phases.
Volcano Park is created in reference to the area’s past and present geologic condition, with use of texture, colour and sculpture.
Kickaball is a large open space where the users are to define the its use. Framed by large shade trees and flanked by children’s play equipment.

Monte Cecilia Park is 12.3 ha Auckland city park which has a varied and rich cultural history and significant heritage values.
In 2007 the ACC's Master Plan was completed and Natural Habitats is now working with the council in the design process, including restoration, pedestrian accessibility, viewpoints and nurturing the horticultural and cultural heritage. Further information about our design intent can be found on our website.

After the successful completion of landscaping Stage1 of the Manukau Crossing Project (MHX), Natural Habitats has won the soft landscaping contract to implement Jasmax's landscape and urban design of Stage 2 (the Northern section from Mangere Bridge to Queenstown Road).
Natural Habitats received a fantastic testimonial about the Stage 1 project from Elyse La Face, Environmental Specialist in the MHX Alliance Team, saying “The key to our success has been our contact Brian Spencer, Natural Habitats Landscape Development Divisional Manager. Brian has professionally run his team to achieve all of our requirements. The installation process carried out by Brian’s team has been extremely efficient, well coordinated, flexible and to a finish result of a very high standard. Natural Habitats has exceeded our expectations and we would highly recommend their Soft Landscaping Division to any other potential client".
Natural Habitats has been awarded the soft landscape package for the Eden Park Redevelopment, by a successful competitive tender. It is a continually changing site which presents an interesting challenge and has been designed by Jasmax.
We have also recently been awarded, again by a successful competitive tender, the landscaping contract for Lion Nathan’s new flagship brewing plant and warehousing operation headquarters in Ormiston Road, Otara.

Natural Habitats has completed the landscaping for the first stage of the Holy Trinity Memorial Garden, which was blessed on the 1st November (All Saints Day)
Stage one included a large rectangular lawn terrace, formed by the construction of two stone walls providing seating and retaining, a single columbarium, an adjacent stone seat and a stone basin to one end. The basin now exhibits a large rock with running water out of a brass cast spout for use on ceremonial occasions.
Parishioners can now purchase spaces in the columbarium for the placement of ashes or spaces can be reserved.

Natural Habitats has always had strong “green” values, but we are starting to be more proactive by publishing our sustainability policy online. This document illustrates our environmental aims and the measures we will take to ensure that we operate and continue to grow in a more sustainable manner. Additionally, we are developing an Environmental Management System (EMS) and “greening” our supply chain by using a preferred supplier arrangement with those suppliers who have similar environmental values to ours.

Our clients needed us to provide a complete design - build service, understanding the savings in both time and cost in using a “one stop shop”. The clients wanted to extend their entertaining space beyond the house (a zero lot lined duplex) and wanted almost everything possible to fit into the garden.
On a detailed site appraisal - the challenge around site coverage was identified as the garden area was approximately 120sq metres. But careful design and planning meant we were able to make the project comply. As a full service contract we provided the pool, pergola, decking BBQ, fireplace, planting, lighting and irrigation as well as assigning a full time site manager who ran the project.

The Summerset Manukau landscaping has been completed and on a recent visit Mark Read, the designer, was amazed at how it has come along.
Master Planning, design, and construction are all elements used with great success and applause by Natural Habitats in the completed and in-progress Summerset retirement village projects.

Our man on the ground in Central Otago, Mark Aston, has been very busy! On top of the continued work on a large scale residential landscape project that was designed by our design team in Auckland, the Terrace Junction development in Frankton is just about completed (planting, lawns and irrigation). Mark has also begun our first job for QLDC (Queenstown Lakes District Council) which is to be completed by Christmas. It includes 200 metres of roadside planting and lawns at the entry to Queenstown on Frankton Rd.
After several years with Natural Habitats at its early stages (starting work out of Graham’s “garage” on Kepa Road!), and being responsible for the development of our garden care model, Stephen left to live in the Waikato with the education of two kids and a rural lifestyle in mind. Firstly working for Florida Landscaping as 2IC then moving into the council arena, including the Hauraki District Council, the Matamata District Council and the Hamilton City Council. Now back in the big smoke, he’s back with us, “It’s great to be part of this exciting and dynamic team again and working at what I am truly passionate about” - we feel the same Stephen, good to have you back!
We are very happy to have Jason aboard with us as he is a highly seasoned construction supervisor with 17 years industry experience. Through his various supervisor roles with the likes of Downer EDI Works, HEB Construction, Mace Contractors and ACE Landscaping, he has the ability to plan and coordinate, or lead from the front as required. Jason is committed to quality control, and actively checks work in progress and on completion. Jason also has a proven track record in safety and environmental management. Great to have you with us Jason.
After a 3 year apprenticeship as a landscape gardener and several years of hands on experience to construct and maintain gardens in Germany, Susanne’s home country, she decided to study 'Landscape Construction & Management' at the University of Applied Sciences in Weihenstephan, Bavaria, graduating in Spring 2009. Susanne and her partner Sebastian (see below) always had the idea to move to NZ and here they are. Keen to get into the landscape business in NZ, they introduced themselves to Natural Habitats and are now both working here. Welcome aboard Susanne and Sebastian!
In Sebastian’s home country of Germany he achieved his Master Craftsman degree in Landscaping. Over the past 10 years in various European countries, he has gained experience in all facets of landscape gardening in Europe, even the installation of green roofs and self cleaning natural pools! Sebastian is looking forward to mixing European ideas into the NZ landscape culture in an effort to make the environment greener.
